The Onomize brand

The logo, its colours and type, how to write the name, text for press, and every file. Free to use when you write about Onomize or link to it.

28 files: the logo and mark as SVG and PNG, icons, shared-link images, banners and posts.

1The mark

Seven tiles, one for each question the site asks of a name.

One tile per question

Every name on Onomize is spelled in tiles and judged on seven questions. The name happens to have seven letters, so the logo is a row the length of a scorecard.

It passes its own rule

Seven letters is as long as a name gets before Brevity turns a tile yellow. Every tile in the logo stays plain.

Drawn, not typed

The letters are cut out of the tiles and drawn on one grid, so no font reproduces them. It is plain on purpose: the logo should never compete with the names on the page.

Chosen on 20 October 2026 from three proposals. See the proposals

2Construction

Tile
240 units square. Tiles sit 20 apart, a twelfth of a tile.
Letters
Cap height 132, just over half the tile. Stems 32; horizontal bars 28, so they look as heavy as the stems.
Diagonals
The N and Z at exactly 60°.
The O
Sides 34, heavier than a stem because they curve, and 2 units over the cap height and baseline so it doesn't look short.
Centring
Letters sit 2 units above the tile's centre, where the eye puts the middle. The E moves 3 right to balance its open side.
Weight
The ink version is one unit thinner, because pale letters on dark tiles look bolder than they are.

3Space and size

Clear space

Half a tile on every side. Nothing else enters that space: no text, no edge, no other logo.

Minimum size

The logo at 16px tall (120px wide) on screen and 30mm wide in print. Below that, use the mark, which holds down to 16px.

4Versions

Two versions, chosen by what's behind them. The letters are cut out of the tiles, so the ground shows through them; there is no two-colour logo to get wrong.

5Colour

The brand is ink and paper. Green, yellow and red are verdicts: they appear only where a name is being judged, and never on the logo, a heading or a button.

7The name

Onomize
One word, capital O only. Not OnoMize, Onomise, or ONOMIZE in running text: the logo's capitals are a drawing, not a spelling.
onomize.com
Lower case, no www.
Company names, scored.
The tagline, with its comma and full stop.
Nominology
Daniel Reeves' word for his rubric and the score built on it. It never names the site.
Credit
The seven questions are Daniel Reeves', from his republication of Paul Graham's 2006 essay “Startup Names”; the .com rule is Graham's. Credit them separately.
Please don't
Use the name or logo as part of your own name or product, or in a way that suggests Onomize endorses you.

One line

Onomize scores company names on seven naming questions and exact .com ownership, and shows the reasoning behind every rating.

One paragraph

Onomize (onomize.com) scores company names. It asks seven questions of a name, set by Daniel Reeves in his republication of Paul Graham's 2006 essay “Startup Names”: is it evocative, brief, greppable, googlable, pronounceable and spellable, and could it become a verb? It adds an eighth factor, whether the company owns its exact .com. The standard is a calibration set of 100 companies rated by hand by a frontier model, with a written reason for every rating, and the scorer has to agree with it before it runs over the 7,251 companies from six published lists. Every rating is an opinion about a name, never a statement about a company.
